Silica based beads are known to suffer from large batch to batch variation due to the difficult in controllong bead size which is a key feature in regarrd to their binding capacity.
In contrast, the nucleic acid binding capacity of cellulose magnetic beads is not strictly dependent on their size resulting in a smoother production process and less problems with varying binding capacity.
This leads to the fact that the purification of nucleic acids using cellulose beads is much more reliable and consistent in regard to purity and yield of DNA and RNA.
