During PAGE, proteins migrate through a gel matrix in response to an applied electic field. Smaller proteins travel faster through the gel than larger proteins, leading to a size dependent separation. The most popular form of PAGE is SDS-PAGE. The detergent sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is added for PAGE sample preparation and is also part of the buffer composition. The treatment with the harsh detergent leads to full protein denaturation and unfolding. SDS binds to hydrophobic parts of the unfolded protein and masks the intrinsic charge of the protein with its own negative charge. As a consequence, SDS-protein complexes migration is predominantly dependent on the size of the protein, allowing an estimation of its molecular weight. ##### Complete set for PAGE protein separation The FastGene® PAGE Protein System contains all the necessary equipment you need for PAGE protein analysis. The integration was seamless, and the systems stand out for being highly leak-proof during gel casting, which has made a noticeable difference in day-to-day use. So far, everyone who has worked with them has been very satisfied with their performance and reliability. The color coding for different comb thicknesses is a useful additional feature that simplifies setup. Overall, I can strongly recommend giving both the SDS-PAGE and wet transfer systems a try. Bölter, Biocenter of the LMU Munich** – 26.06.2025 We have been using the Nippon SDS-PAGE system in all our practical courses for a couple of years now – and everyone is absolutely enthusiastic about how easy it is to handle. Even the very young students who are in the lab for the first time can basically set up their gels intuitively and don’t get frustrated by leaking gels or buffer tanks! Innovative Biomedicine Section, University of Verona, Italy** – 05.08.2024 The innovative system from Nippon Genetics Europe, Gel Casting Clip, has allowed us to significantly speed up the preparation of Western Blot gels, as it does not allow any liquid leakage, so we no longer have to do the water leak test, it is small and handy. We already ordered 3 of them, with a particular Resnova promotion in March, and today we have ordered two more. I recommend anyone who makes homemade gels to use this system!
